What is the theory of the social construction of reality? How does it relate to sociological interpretations of culture?

experience is related to how society is arranged/norms & values attached to particular actions.

Berger & Luckmann came up with social constructivism.

cultural variance over time and geographical place demonstrates the arbitrary way our understanding of our environment is derived.

eg. - the death penalty is state sanctioned punishment in the USA and not in the UK; the British, if polled, will tend to be against such a means of punishment, whereas Americans will support it in significantly more numbers
